MQ-2 Gas & Smoke Sensor Module
The MQ-2 Gas & Smoke Sensor Module provides a practical way to introduce gas and smoke sensing into electronics and embedded-system projects.
The module uses an MQ-2 semiconductor gas-sensing element based on tin dioxide (SnO₂). It is sensitive to a range of flammable gases and smoke, including gases such as LPG, propane, methane, hydrogen and alcohol vapours.
The sensor is useful for educational demonstrations where a microcontroller reads the sensor response and uses the detected change to trigger an indicator, buzzer, display or other programmed action.
It can be used in projects involving gas-leakage demonstrations, smoke detection experiments, environmental monitoring concepts, IoT projects and automated alert systems.
The MQ-2 is a general-purpose gas sensor rather than a selective gas analyzer. Its response can be affected by environmental conditions and sensor calibration. Therefore, the sensor output should not be interpreted as an exact gas concentration without an appropriate calibration process.

Compatibility Notes
The MQ-2 module can be integrated into projects using Arduino and other compatible microcontrollers.
The sensor output represents the sensor’s response to detected gases and environmental conditions. It should not be treated as a directly calibrated PPM measurement unless the complete system has been properly calibrated.
What’s Included
- 1 × MQ-2 Gas & Smoke Sensor Module
Important Notes
- The MQ-2 is a general-purpose gas sensor, not a selective gas analyzer.
- Sensor response varies depending on gas type, concentration, temperature, humidity and other environmental conditions.
- The stated sensing range should not be interpreted as guaranteed measurement accuracy across all gases and conditions.
- Proper calibration is required when quantitative gas-concentration measurements are needed.
- This product is intended for educational, hobby and prototyping applications.
- It is not a certified life-safety gas alarm or professional gas-monitoring instrument.
- Allow appropriate sensor warm-up and operating conditions before taking readings.
- Do not use this module as the sole protection against hazardous gas exposure.
Product Summary
The MQ-2 Gas & Smoke Sensor Module is a versatile semiconductor gas sensor for detecting changes associated with flammable gases and smoke. With sensitivity to gases including LPG, methane, propane, hydrogen and alcohol vapours, it is well suited to Arduino, IoT, embedded-system and STEM projects involving gas sensing, monitoring and automated alerts.
