The MQ-2 Gas & Smoke Sensor Module is a highly versatile metal-oxide semiconductor sensor that detects combustible gases and smoke concentrations in the surrounding air. Operating via an internal micro-heating element and a tin dioxide ($\text{SnO}_2$) semiconductor layer, this sensor changes its electrical conductivity when exposed to target gases, allowing your microcontroller to measure pollution or leak levels instantly.

As an IIT Bhubaneswar-incubated tech enterprise, XROBOTICS WORKS includes the MQ-2 module in our advanced safety and IoT automation curriculum tracks. It serves as the primary hardware element behind student projects like Automated Fire Alarms, Industrial Gas Leakage Alerts, and Smart Kitchen safety nodes deployed across composite school labs. The module features a dual-output configuration: an Analog Output (AO) for precise gas concentration (ppm) scaling, and a Digital Output (DO) routed through an onboard LM393 comparator for instant, threshold-based alarm triggers. It is entirely solderless and plug-and-play, offering a direct window into real-world industrial safety systems.
